🏅The NCAA just hit a breaking point

Here's why that's not good for college sports

Hey there,

There’s an old saying that goes like this: “There’s decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.” I think this week has been one of those very weeks for college sports. The news we’ve been following is genuinely just so insane that I’ve felt somewhat crippled in trying to wrap my mind around all of it and package it up neatly for y’all.

But that is indeed what we are here for – decoding the NIL news for you, and showing you what’s really going on in the college sports world. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do today.

We’re talking about two pieces of news which absolutely dominated the headlines this week – and for good reason: First, that the Power Four conferences are forcing teams to sign contracts that say they’ll be bound by the House Settlement. Second, that the NCAA will cease enforcing amateurism.

It's all very wild, so maybe we should just get right into it.

Okay, let’s get into it with this first piece of news: The Power Four conferences are threatening to expel teams within the conference if they don’t sign a binding contract that essentially demands they actually abide by the House Settlement’s terms.

But… why? Weren’t they already going to abide by the House Settlement’s NIL restrictions? Well, no. Tons of state legislatures have been passing laws that give their schools the legal right to ignore House.
